2006 Porsche 911 GT3 (997): what was it?


After Porsche introduced the 911 GT3 as a homologation special for the 996-generation, this naked test mule confirmed that a follow-up was in the works. An all-new GT3 was about to crown the range with even more focused aerodynamics.



2006 Porsche 911 GT3 (997): what was it powered by?


While later 997 GT3s were offered with larger engines, it all started with a 409bhp 3.6-litre flat-six. A 0-60mph sprint took just 4.1 seconds, while a top speed of 193mph was achievable.

2006 Porsche 911 GT3 (997): what did it look like once on sale?


Porsche test drivers were caught unaware of our photographer who snapped this new sports car totally undisguised. There was nothing to hide with the production bodywork totally on show. Engineers would later tell the world how the new aerodynamic feature reduced lift to zero.
