2021 Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid design

There is very little to report here because VW has purposefully made the eHybrid look pretty much exactly like any other Tiguan.

It makes sense because there's nothing special about PHEVs these days anyway. So, the only way you'll tell is the extra flap for the charging port on the front wing plus, of course, the eHybrid badge on the back.

However, you can have your eHybrid in different trim flavours, called Life, Elegance and R-Line. That changes things like the Tiguan's bumpers, sills and wheels, with R-Line getting the sportiest looks of the lot.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid interior and infotainment

The eHybrid Tiguan is very similar to any other Tiguan inside, too.

Aside from some extra driving modes including an EV driving mode button, unique graphics for the digital driver's dials and information screens on the infotainment for the eHybrid EV modes.

Otherwise, it's the same mix of premium materials and logically laid out switches. All Tiguan eHybrids come with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system a standard, but you can pay extra to upgrade it to a larger screen with more connectivity features.

Digital dials come in as standard on mid-level elegance trim.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid practicality and boot space

The VW Tiguan eHybrid is a five-seat family SUV and offers the same space as the regular Tiguan for passengers.

That means plenty of room for four adults to sit in comfort or five adults on shorter journeys. The rear seats also slide and recline, which is a nice touch.

However, the addition of the eHybrid's battery pack means that boot space is reduced by a whopping 139 litres, leaving you with 476 litres rather than 615 litres to chuck luggage into.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid engine, battery, motors and ranges

The VW Tiguan eHybrid is powered by a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine mated to a battery and electric motor to produce 245hp in total.

The eHybrid's 10.4kWh battery allows up to 30 miles of electric range and can be charged up from empty to full in less than four hours using a 3.6kW wall box or five hours using a three-pin socket.

It's no slouch, either: the eHybrid will crack 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and drive in EV mode at up to 80mph.

Official fuel economy is said to be 176.6mpg, but as with any PHEV, that has to be taken with a pinch of salt, as it depends entirely on your mix of EV and combustion driving. Still, an official 38g/km makes the eHybrid the cheapest company car Tiguan there is.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid prices and on-sale date

The VW Tiguan eHybrid is on sale now from £35,515 for Life trim. Elegance costs from £37,780 and range-topping R-Line from £38,120.
