2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake design

The G70 Shooting Brake is Genesis’ answer to cars like the BMW 3 Series Touring and Audi A4 Avant, so picture those cars for an idea of its size, although it’s worth noting it’s slightly shorter than the BMW at 4,685mm. It’s also the estate version of the G70 saloon, another car confirmed for European release this year but about which details are limited.

Where it differs greatly from the Audi or BMW is its design: at the front it features Genesis’ signature V-shaped ‘Crest Grille’ and the quad headlights which we’ve seen already on the G70 saloon. The bonnet is heavily creased to give the impression of performance and power.

A sharply raked rear roofline gives the car its shooting brake silhouette and there’s a floating spoiler combined with the single-piece glass hatch to create an even more sporty image.

The quad light design is also found at the back but the LEDs are split between the boot and the rear three quarters of the car, creating a fragmented effect.

It looks unique, that’s for sure.

2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake interior

While the exterior looks may be more than a little divisive, when it comes to the interior the G70 Shooting Brake looks to be a bit more of a crowd-pleaser. The knurled silver switchgear looks on a par with anything from Jaguar or BMW, and there is an abundance of quilted perforated leather.

The seats look deep and plush and we can see some alloy pedals which are included to keep up the sporty shooting brake theme. Leather wraps most of the dashboard and in red looks quite overwhelming: can you have too much of a good thing?

Genesis is not going down the minimalist route of brands like Volvo, using plenty of physical buttons to control things like climate and drive modes, and the driver console holds a rotary dial for those who want something tactile to control the infotainment system.

2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake infotainment

Very little is known so far in terms of how the infotainment will function and whether it will offer connected services, but we can tell you that it will use a 10.25-inch screen mated to a digital driver display.

Rather than the widescreen effect of systems like Mercedes’ MBUX, the infotainment system sits separate from the driver display, perched on top of the dashboard.

It’s expected that wireless phone integration and charging and 360-degree camera will be among the options available.

2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake practicality and boot space

Genesis hasn’t revealed the exact boot space of the G70 Shooting Brake but has said it has 40% more luggage capacity of the G70 saloon, which has a 330-litre boot.

By our maths that should make it around 460-litres, which is decent but a little less than the BMW 3 Series Touring’s 500-litres.

The back seats will fold in a 40/20/40 split which is useful but, again, the 3 Series Touring and A4 Avant offer the same.

2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake engines

Using the G70 saloon - which is already on sale in the US - as a guide we can expect the G70 Shooting Brake to be powered by at least two different engines.

The range-topper would be a 3.3-litre V6 twin-turbocharged petrol which is most likely to come with all-wheel drive models. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol will likely be offered in front wheel and all-wheel drive format.

2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake prices and on-sale date

The Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is on sale now with first deliveries expected early 2022.

Prices start at £35,250 for the entry Premium Line model, rising to £40,250 for the Luxury Line. The top-end Sport Line costs £41,880 without any optional packs.
