> New flagship Genesis to be released in 2022
> Will take on the Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and BMW 7 Series
> YesAuto’s spy shots of test mule reveals interior for the first time
> Prices expected to be around £70,000
Genesis might have only existed in the UK for all of five minutes, but it’s on a serious product offensive. Launching everything from SUVs to shooting brakes, the showroom is becoming populated with interesting alternatives to the German establishment. This new G90 represents its flagship model.
Designed to take on the Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and BMW 7 Series, this luxury limo has been caught lapping the Nurburgring.
Our spy pictures reveal some of the G90’s interior for the first time, something that appears significantly different from its showroom siblings. Its large touchscreen is sunk into the dashboard, its centre console is more sculpted, and there’s an even larger digital driver’s display.
That’s an interesting question. Officially speaking, we don’t know as the car is still undergoing testing, but an obvious answer would be either a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine or a 3.0-litre diesel. However, there might be another option…
A 3.3-litre V6 with 361bhp is available in the parts bin via the Kia Stinger. We’d also expect to see a hybrid model appear to rival its closest competition.
The camouflage has been getting lighter and lighter on these prototype cars, suggesting that a reveal isn’t too far away. An early 2022 event seems likely, with cars actually hitting the road partway through next year.
This is an all-new model for Genesis, so speculating on price is a bit tricky. Looking at the price tags on rival vehicles in the class, and considering where Genesis positions itself, we’d say £70,000 might be in the right ballpark.
Something to consider is that many Genesis models work out better value considering equipment levels versus the competition.
