2022 Audi A8 design

The Audi A8 has always been a rather understated car, but this updated model really flies under the radar in terms of design. You’d be forgiven for thinking this was last year’s car, but a series of little tweaks have been made.

Starting at the front, you’ll find a slightly larger grille, redesigned itches, and some distinctive LED lights that now come standard on all models – the same goes for OLED units at the rear. There are some new alloy wheel designs and five new shades of matte paint to choose from.

One of the most notable upgrades is the addition of an S Line pack that includes some sportier bodywork. You also have the choice of luxurious chrome brightwork or more subtle black trim if you’d rather.

2022 Audi A8 interior and infotainment

Not only should you expect Audi’s typical brilliantly appointed interior in the A8, but being the flagship of the range, things are as opulent as can be. Fine leathers, plenty of tech, and a real professionalism to the cabin’s execution.

A new trim level has been added to crown the range, however, it will only be made available to customers in China. Called Horch, it can only be had on the 3.0-litre V6 A8 L which itself is modified for an extra 13cm of length. Two-tone paint, plenty of chrome, fancy quilted seating, deep-pile carpets, and massaging functions are there to be enjoyed.

In the front, you’ll find Audi’s now-familiar dual 10.1-inch touchscreen that serves up your infotainment needs. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto play nice with the system, while the secondary screen is equipped with haptic feedback. There’s now also a pair of touchscreens in the rear for both work and play.

2022 Audi A8 practicality and boot space

In standard guise, there’s plenty of space in the rear of the A8, but there is an extended wheelbase model should the car be needed for limousine duties. Here rear passengers can recline while being chauffeured to their destination. China-only Horch specification models are 13cm longer still.

Boot space remains identical to before, meaning a healthy 510-litres is at your disposal. While the BMW 7 Series has marginally bigger cargo space, the A8 does surpass the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

2022 Audi A8 engines

The Audi A8’s broad engine offering remains unchanged, meaning that things kick off with the only diesel in the form of a 3.0-litre TDI producing 282bhp. A petrol 3.0-litre TFSI with 335bhp opens the batting for the green pump.

You can still have the A8 as a 455bhp TFSIe hybrid or equipped with a V8 when chosen in S8 guise.

All cars are fitted with Audi’s signature Quattro all-wheel drive system for maximum traction, something that’s paired with a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission across the range.

2022 Audi A8 prices and on-sale date

If you’re after diesel power under the bonnet of a new A8, pricing starts at £82,835 while the 60 TFSIe hybrid comes in at just over £92k. However, if you want the prestige of having a V8 powering your luxury limo, the S8 pushes into six figures at £122,650.

See this updated Audi A8 as a refinement of an already successful formula. You can place an order for the new car now.
